As you may be aware, Dr Arnett is now suspended from the medical register and is therefore not working at the practice. In view of the current publicity, the practice team would like to reassure you that the practice remains open and continues to provide the normal range of services. However the practice has now moved to Monkwearmouth Health Centre.

Our service is currently being provided by Dr Gellia and Dr Balaraman, who are supporting the practice on a locum basis. We would like to thank our patients for bearing with us at this difficult time, and we will keep you updated on any changes in the future.

Our Practice is highly patient focused and we have a multidisciplinary approach to patients’ health care. We aim to deliver the best for our patients by combining the skills of the practice team with other health and social care workers in the community. We provide modern health care facilities and focus on continually improving the health of our patients and residents of the community. This website is aimed at providing you the important information about our practice, our services and our staff in addition to some other useful information and tools available for you to use. Please have a look around and send us any comments or suggestions if you like. We can use your comments and ideas to improve our online services and develop the content of this site accordingly.

Care Quality Commission inspection

The Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body that regulates healthcare providers in England, has recently carried out a routine inspection of our practice.

The inspectors recognised the practice’s strength in providing a caring service and involving patients in decisions about their treatment, but felt that the practice does not meet its requirements in full, and has placed it ‘special measures’ for a period of six months.

These concerns mainly centre on systems and processes, but we take them very seriously and we are confident that we will resolve them over the coming months. We are keen for our patients to get involved in this process by taking part in a new Patient Participation Group.

In the meantime, the surgery remains open and you can continue to use the service as normal. If you have any concerns about this report, or would like to get involved in the Patient Participation Group, please speak to the practice manager, Brenda Cassidy, who will be happy to answer your questions.

It is now possible to book, check or cancel appointments and order your repeat prescription online using Emis Access. To register for this please call into the surgery and the staff will be happy to provide you with instructions and a password to allow to register.

“We would like to inform you that GP’s in this practice do not prescribe antibiotics for infections which usually get better on their own such as colds and flu. We would recommend you visit your pharmacist for advice if you are suffering from these sorts of conditions.”

A ‘healthy lifestyle’ is what we recommend:

  • Stop smoking
  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg
  • Exercise regularly
  • Keep alcohol intake within recommended limits
