How the foodbank operates
Food is donated
Supermarket collections, schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to the foodbank. All food given out by the foodbank is donated.
Food is sorted and stored
The foodbank is operated by volunteers from the Elim Pentecostal Church who sort food to check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need.
Frontline care professionals identify people in need
Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB, Job Centre, Gentoo etc…identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. If you are an agency and would like to sign up to the foodbank for vouchers, please phone 0191 567 1367 and we would be delighted to assist.
Clients receive food
Foodbank clients bring their voucher to the foodbank where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a cup of tea or coffee and have time to listen, pray, if they would like that and where possible signpost to other professional agencies able to help solve the longer-term problem such as debt advice, counselling etc…
We rely on food donations to feed local people in crisis. From packets of pasta to tins of tomatoes. We would be most grateful if you could please give what you can.
